    Educational Technology
My philosophy on educational technology in the classroom begins with the word collaboration. Students must learn how to collaborate with others to achieve learning outcomes desired by their instructor. According to Forbes.com, the top skills employers are looking for in their future employees in order of importance are:"Ability to work in a team and the ability to communicate verbally with people inside and outside of an organization." This leads me to believe as an educator that teachers must prepare students for their future careers by working with each other, and not focused on what type of technology students are learning. Technology will always improve and grow, but if we are not improving our students' communication ability they will be limited in what they can do with the technology. In order to achieve this communication gap in the classroom, school districts need to improve the communication gap in their professional developments. Many school districts have fantastic learning strategies happening at different age and content levels on their campus; however, most professional development days are spent listening to an outside speaker on researched based strategies. These strategies are important, but the ability to learn from other colleagues in the district provide validity in professional development as well. How many times in a learning environment (classroom or professional development) does a student or educator get to speak with different types of learners or teachers to achieve a certain outcome? According to Bringing Down the Wall, " Collaboration-focused features include classroom clusters, common spaces, and furniture that facilitates group work support learning models that emphasize mobility, flexibility and collaboration" (Rath, Feb. 2013). In order for teachers to use this in their day to day instruction, they should be given the opportunity to learn in the same environment during Professional Development Days. My vision for future educational technology includes the Nodes chairs from Steelcase, which would allow my students to learn in more of a CollaborationSpace no matter the technology these used. I believe this would truly prepare them to be more Career and College Ready.
